There are plenty of great events across the mountains all season long – you are sure to find something that suits you. We’ve highlighted some of our favourites below – be sure to check out the individual resort websites for the full event calendars, there’s so much happening right through to the very end of the season.
Opening Weekend – all resorts
Over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (9-11 June 2018), the Victorian alpine resorts throw open their doors and announce the season officially open! Regardless of what Mother Nature has delivered, at least two of the resorts can guarantee snow and skiing on opening weekend thanks to state-of-the-art snowmaking technology, so you can book with confidence. One thing’s for sure though – there’s plenty of celebrations to be had no matter what!
Hotham Brand New Day – 30 June 2018
Designed specifically for people new to the snow, Hotham’s Brand New Day is a fully hosted mountain experience that includes ski and clothing hire, lift pass, lunch, guide, lesson and more. The perfect introduction to snow sports and bound to turn you into a life-long snowlover!
Mt Baw Baw Christmas in July – 1-15 July 2018
You don’t need to leave the country to experience a white Christmas! Visit Mt Buller in July and enjoy delicious festive dinners, visits from Santa, themed movies and much more. The mountain will be full of Christmas cheer for kids (and adults) to enjoy!
Falls Creek Sled Dog Classic – 3 August 2018
One of our favourite events on the calendar and a unique alpine experience – the Falls Creek Sled Dog Classic sees teams of huskies race through the Falls Creek Village in the evening in an exciting atmosphere under lights. Make a weekend of it!
Bollywood at Baw Baw – 25-26 August 2018
All things India and Bollywood hit Baw Baw for one incredible weekend! Enjoy the sights, sounds and delicious tastes of India with this weekend dedicated to Indian culture, including food, music and dance.
Mt Buller ’80s Day – 8 September 2018
The theme for this very colourful event is tighter, brighter and shinier! Visit Mt Buller in September and it’s all about fun, and on 8 September it’s all about celebrating the decade fashion forgot, the ’80s! Hit the op shop and join in on the fun – on and off the slopes.
Mt Hotham Gay Ski Week – 9-13 September 2018
Fun, frivolity and fun on the slopes – the ‘Frosty Fruits’ ski week welcomes all to celebrate equality in the snow fields. Enjoy pop-up parties, trivia nights, group dinners, ski competitions and much more, all in the fantastic surrounds of Mt Hotham.
Mt Buller Pond Skim National Championships – 22 September 2018
The concept is simple but the execution is sure to challenge – get your costume and contraption sorted and skim across the pond and you could win some sensational prizes. Fun, laughter and a great time absolutely guaranteed!
Falls Creek Mountain Yoga and Snow Retreat – 28-30 September 2018
Enjoy a nourishing long weekend at Falls Creek over the AFL Grand Final weekend, with two days of yoga, meditation, snow play and hearty, delicious food. Combine that with some late-season skiing and you have the perfect weekend!
Closing Weekend – all resorts
The AFL Grand Final long weekend (28-30 September 2018) is the last hurrah for season 2018, and with an extra day to enjoy you can really make the most of the final days of the snow season. The perfect opportunity to ski, board or play and enjoy mild weather, sunshine and lots of celebrations to mark the end of the season.
